Thermostat 24V and 120V? can someone tell me please, what happens if 24v thermostat is used for 120 volt wiring for gas hot water boiler. this work will be thermostat? and I thank you. just curious
24V thermostat is designed to provide a boiler / furnace on low voltage (24V) wiring side of the boiler. In no case should it be used to voltage (120V) side of the wiring. However, a relay can be used to trigger something on the side line voltage using a 24V thermostat. What do you do?
There are countless ways both the plumb line and a boiler circulating pump (s), zone valves and associated safety devices - both the right way and wrong way. . If your question is beyond a choice thermostat, I highly recommend a licensed HVAC technician from another company to solve your particular situation.
Believe it or not, I came upon this on an old boiler, someone used a t-stat of 24 volts to control their boiler pump and ran 120 volts through the stat and back to the pump . The stat does it take for a while, depending on brand and quality stat. This stat is a Honeywell T87 stat round. the proof would reduce the pump every 60 seconds. There are t-stats are desigened to run at 120 volts are common, they have only ordered way.If is a new boiler, why are they not using the terminal of the boiler , which is designed and used to control the boiler, say ohh, control of the boiler. This band is already at 24 volts. Perhaps no trouble finding someone else (no cooperation.) To go out and look at it as a second opinion, and if the former company has screwed up, fixed it by the 2nd company and to pay first for the cost and repairs. It chaps my skin when people do not know what they do and people to pay too.
When properly connected than 24V monitoring Cicuit OK. Never in the 120V line.
24v wire can not handle the load placed on it from the 120V and burn ...... gag. is smaller and not evaluated for u ..... can burn ur hut ........
lic. gen. contractor
24v thermostat you burn real fast
very probably the son inside the thermostat will begin to get hot and burn, and smoke, then melt completely and cause a fire that burns the house ..
