Air Conditioner Recharge

Air Conditioner RechargeCan I recharge my air conditioner?

On a hot day, after a long winter and cold, you turn the air conditioner in your vehicle to find a steady stream of warm air that escapes. After months of neglect, you hope that the air conditioner can be recovered in time to face another hot summer. It is a common problem for car owners, but it can be solved very easily.

There are two things you can do to keep cooling your car in good working condition. You can put the air conditioner for a few minutes each month to keep the compressor lubricated and you can recharge the air conditioner when warm air begins to move.

The safest and easiest to have your air conditioner is recharged to have a mechanic do it. However, it is possible to do it yourself with some special tools. You'll need a good set of goggles, a pair of thick gloves, a refill kit and a can of refrigerant. Some refill kits can provide a refrigerant pressure gauge with a built-in stopper, this kit is the easiest to work with. You should avoid spilling the liquid refrigerant and do it in your eyes or on your skin because it can cause instant frostbite.

In this spirit, the first step is to determine what type of refrigerant you need. There are two choices: R12 and R134a. R12 refrigerant is used only in cars that were manufactured before 1994 and no longer on the market. If you have an old car, you can use recycled R12, but it would be much easier to have your professional system switched to R134a, do not mix different types of refrigerant.

Step by step refill cooling your vehicle

1 - Safety first: put your safety glasses and gloves.

Two - Install the refill kit as indicated in the kit instructions, which may involve fixing a pipe and valve box cooler or something similar.

3 - Check the car manual to locate the low pressure port. The pipe is usually just good on that port, the port of high pressure is a different size.

4 - Wipe the outside of the port of low pressure before opening it to avoid any type of material entering.

Five - Connect the hose to the low pressure.

6 - Start the car and turn the air conditioner on the highest setting. You should get an accurate reading of the pressure after a few minutes.

7 - Drill can be ordered by the kit and add the refrigerant through the port of low pressure. You may need to detach and reattach the parties to this point, follow the instructions on the package carefully.

8 - Check the pressure gauge that you add the coolant. The kit instructions should tell you how to add, if not, see the manual car.

9 - Remove the hose as indicated by the kit instructions.

10 - Add the cap to the point of lowest pressure.

It's a good idea to keep the gauge kit for recharging the future. For a detailed step by step with pictures, please visit: http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/AC-recharge.htm
