Is there a trick to duration of 2 air conditioning units in a two story home for efficiency? We recently purchased a 2 storey house with two air conditioning units. Does anyone has any advice on the most cost effiecient to use these units? It would stand to reason it should be. Useful advice would be appreciated.
The first and best trick for efficient air conditioning is to ventilate your attic. Make sure your attic ventilation continues under the soffits and proper ventilation at the top of the roof. Put a thermometer up there on a hot day. If the temperature exceeds 10 degrees hotter than outside, add at least two wind "or a big fan of that hot air get out of there. Your A / C does not work as hard nor cost almost as much work.
Consider adding insulation in your attic. If you live where you have to heat in winter, the combined economies of the summer and winter can repay the cost in just 2 years old.
The second "trick" is to air in your house in the middle of the night by opening windows in both the stairs. Then in the morning, close windows to keep the cooler air in. Close the curtains on the sunny side to keep the sun from overheating the house.
If you have south windows that you should absolutely see the outside cover with foil, shiny side. I then use an Exacto knife to cut the patterns of lace for the leaf to admit a little light and make pretty pictures on the walls.
If you do not use the upstairs bedrooms during the day, close the doors and turn off the A / C. It only takes one hour or cool the rooms before they are needed.
Following the above would save about 30% on your A / C energy costs.
rotate the two until the house cool. turn off the AC low, cold air to descend stairs
With a little air conditioning, if you know you need it for a few days, the best way is to set it at a comfortable level, 69 or 70 degrees F, and keep it at that level, the time, and run. You can move it down a bit when you need it, for example, to the AL at 65 while watching television, but the main expense of air conditioning, besides just running, is to have the turn off and on, it will be cheaper in the long run if you keep it to a level compatible and.
The air conditioners will cost more than central air. When I lived in Philadelphia, using my AC 200/month added to my electric, but Philly was costly public services. So it will depend on where you are.
I do not know that two units will cool the entire house. Ceiling fans can add to its effectiveness or closing doors to keep the AC at the point where you need it.
Good luck ~
