Cast Iron Utility Sink

Cast Iron Utility SinkCast iron sinks - Advantages and disadvantages

Whether buying a sink to a new home or renovating, the decision can be confusing. There are several types available. There is a particular type that has been around for at least a hundred years, it is both attractive and durable.

What is

Cast iron is an alloy which forms the solid base or foundation of a washbasin. Because many wells plates are made from recycled iron, it is considered very "green." enamel, which is frosted glass that is melted, poured over the iron to form the cladding. The coating may be colored to match the interior spaces.

Why use it?

In other words, cast iron sinks are very strong and last long. According to an August 2007 Consumer Report on the wells, it was reported that the cost and appearance is not as important as the material and cast iron sinks overcome their votes.

The thickness of the metal makes the well resistant to acids and protects against chipping, dents and scratches. They are easy to clean and maintain, which makes them attractive. Because of the thickness and properties of heat retention is easier to use hotter water for cleaning jobs, because the water stays warm longer.

Because of this durability, this type of sink is often preferred for service parts, especially if the tools are being cleaned in the sink. There are deep wells available for utility rooms, and the porcelain coating on the cleans easily, they can resist the dirty work and greasy.

Maintaining iron sinks

Cast iron sinks run the gamut in price, but a good sink base can be relatively inexpensive to purchase. Remember that this metal is particularly heavy, and the counter support should be strong enough to withstand the weight of the sink. But they put in the kitchen, the same way as any other well.

Precautions must be taken in respect of the sink looking good. Do not leave anything in the sink that could stain such as coffee or tea bags. If spots, using a small amount of mild detergent is effective. Never use steel wool or other abrasives on the sink. Although they are scratch resistant, be careful with sharp objects or objects falling on the sink. It may cause the enamel to chip.
