Is gas fireplace is working properly? We had a gas fireplace installed last year. Since then, we have used maybe six times for any length of time (30 + minutes) and several times for a shorter period (5-10 minutes). When we run it on the higher setting for any length of time, it still feels - unlike natural gas, but only a chemical smell. When I looked one day and down on the floor, I noticed that there is a plaque that appears to cover the hole where the pipe is on the "ceiling" of it. I was just wondering if this is supposed to be there, or if maybe the installers forgot to remove it? It is an extraordinary room.
It could be a spark arrestor. I would call the person who installed it and ask him to check. You'll need an adjustment of fuel / air if nothing else.
A yellow flame indicates a lack of oxygen. The pipe hole "that you mentioned that your heating is not a heater unvented. If you have a broken heater you will need to have to open the vent hole and outside. Otherwise, you have a loss of breathing oxygen and carbon monoxide takes place.
Use a search engine and the model # to find what you heat,
