I converted my chest freezer into a Kegerator because I brew my own beer. It took more control of temperature, so I added a Ranco temp control ETC11000. I set at 38 degrees. The freezer is quite old, but worked fine until last week when the top quarter of the back panel inside the freezer at the ice point and ambient temperature would not drop below 58. I unplugged for about 5 days to thaw all but half an hour after I reconnected to the ice built up and it would not get colder than 63, the temperature was 82 at the start ... . What can I try to solve this problem?

Looks like you're glowing defroster can be broken, allowing the thermostat to stay in defrost. You should check the tube to see if the glass is broken and the defrost heater is on the inside. If you have to go with another, then manually turn the thermostat to each setting to see what kind of results you receive. I would also like to see your temp. control unit, if you do not have the means to check, then take it for examination.

You can call the repair center technician to repair the broken freezer.If, he is too old then buy another.
