Robert Shaw Thermostat

Robert Shaw ThermostatWhat is the "A thread on my old Robert Shaw thermostat do?

I am replacing my old Robert Shaw thermostat (model: D34020) with a new Honeywell thermostat (RTH7400). The installation manual does not mention a wired connection labeled "A", and their technical support by phone does not know what it is either. The new thermostat has the following terminals: C, G, O, O / B, R, W2, Y2, AUX, E and L. Which terminal would I connect the 'A' to the new thermostat?

One might suggest that is the AUX terminal. I did a search and replacement is recommended that the 300 series Robert Shaw. Compare the new design of honey with the 300 RS. Here is the link to read and compare the drawings. I recommend tracing the wire to the unit to locate the function. Do not do it blindly, it can cause you problems.
